Hello, I’m Caroline (she/her) a qualified, trauma informed counsellor based in Brighouse, West Yorkshire. I offer face-to-face sessions in the Corner Rooms in Brighouse, as well as online counselling. I work with adults, children and young people.
Why come to counselling?
People come to counselling for varied reasons. Some of us carry the weight of a difficult childhood or struggle with anxiety or low mood. Our relationships might feel unfulfilling, or we have a sense that something’s not quite right, or that life feels a bit flat. After a bereavement, some of us feel unable to cope on our own. And some of us might feel OK but keep wondering if there’s more - more joy, more peace, more meaning.
Whatever it is, you can come to counselling exactly as you are right now with whatever you want to bring – whether things feel too big, too small or somewhere in between.
A little bit about me
I work in a person-centred way, which means I’ll work with you, not on you. It’s your life, your experience – I’m here to listen – properly – with warmth, respect and without judgement, and to support you as you explore whatever’s going on.
I’ll go at your pace. Some days you might want to share experiences in detail, other days you might need quiet periods to think and reflect, at times we might explore emotional regulation practices. Whatever you need is fine. We’ll work together to make our sessions work for you.
I believe that a good counselling relationship – one based on empathy, respect and authenticity – can be transformative. I believe that we all have the power within us not just to cope with difficulties but to thrive. Counselling is about discovering this power through a shared exploration of any issues you want to bring.
Finding the right counsellor for you
To find out if we could work well together, I offer a brief initial video chat or phone call at no cost and we can discuss whether to make an appointment. If we agree that counselling with me is not the best option for you, I will do my best to direct you to alternative sources of help, and to recommend another counsellor if you wish.
What will change in counselling?
Since every counselling journey is unique, we can’t know for sure what will happen for you, but we can certainly think about what may happen. For example, you may start to feel more
compassion towards yourself. You may realise that the past’s hold on you has loosened and past experiences no longer define you. You may find yourself accepting some parts of you despite not liking them, and changing others. You may notice a shift in your relationships with the people around you. You may become more attuned to your own thoughts and feelings and to others’, discover new meanings, find new goals. You may have a clearer idea of what’s important to you, and make changes to create a life that serves you better.
At the end of the day, I believe that with the right support, we all have the ability to grow, heal and move forward. Therapy isn’t about fixing you — it’s about giving you the space and support to understand yourself better, so you can find your own way through.
Drop me a line and we can have a chat about how we can work together.
